As Co-Chair of the Cook County Complete Census Count Commission, Commissioner Anaya has tirelessly worked with community, faith-based, and elected leaders to ensure a complete and accurate county of the 7th District.

In the 2010 Census count, the 7th District had the second lowest response rate in the whole county and therefore considered “hard-to-count,” Our office launched the Southwest Census Coalition in July 2019 to work with nearly 50 leaders and organizations to address this issue. We are working together for a complete count – ¡Si se puede! ¡Todos contamos!

What is the Census? According to the U.S. Census Bureau: “The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. The 2020 Census counts the population in the United States and five U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Each home will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire—online, by phone, or by mail—between March 12-20.

The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

It’s also in the Constitution: Article 1, Section 2, mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every 10 years. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790.”

The 2020 Census is:

IMPORTANT: A complete count will guarantee funding for our schools, streets and bridges, our health system, parks, and many more. In addition, representation at all levels of government depends on census data.

SAFE & CONFIDENTIAL: The U.S. Census data is protected by Title 13, US Code and cannot be shared with anyone, including other government agencies.

FAST & EASY: You can complete the Census questionnaire in less than 10 minutes!
